You’ve Got Mail!
A 1950s Royal Mail Project used the strapline ‘Someone Somewhere Wants A Letter’ encouraging the public to connect with the people around them through the exchange of the physical and tangible object of the written letter. Revisiting the concept that campaign brings up bigger questions about how we communicate through modern systems – virtual and real. What is the purpose and value of traditional forms of communication?
The project encourages the use of practice-based research where the creative act is an experiment, to push boundaries and to ask questions. It uses elements of emergent design which refers to the ability to adapt to new ideas, concepts, or findings that arise during the process of experimentation and creativity.
You’ve got mail is an experimentation and exploration of the tangible. The postcard collection presents different small objects that are sent through the mail. The embossing of the objects creates another level of physicality and tangibility.
